This system is for persons engaged in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings using a suspension system known as a Rope Descent System, also known as a Controlled Descent System, a Boatswain’s Chair or ‘Chairing.’

When a worker is using a rope descent suspension system (RDS) he/she will often be moved across and away from the façade of the building by the wind and the rope effects generated through lowering and stopping during the descent as well as the forces generated when the worker is cleaning, wiping, rubbing, etc. the windows and other surfaces of the façade.

This unrestricted movement is
dangerous, an O.S.H.A. code violation and, additionally, makes working on the façade difficult.
